Yet another expat site
There have been many attempts to create "Brno community" websites that provide information for expats and students who moved to Brno, are planning to move here, or are just interested in the city. And when you find a domain name like livinginbrno.com, it almost seems like that is what you need to do with it.
Well, nope! That's not the focus of this website!
This is about life in Brno. How the people who live in the city experience it. Things they have in common, things that make them laugh, things that make them different from other Czech cities.
This site is about locals and foreigners living together. About sharing different cultures, food and experiences, learning from each other, celebrating together.
The primary goal of this website is to provide information. How we provide that information is a different story. "Story" may be the pun here, because we'll try as much as possible to use narrative to explain things, using practical situations that we all recognise.
A guide to using Pipni-a-jed becomes a story about someone forgetting to buy a ticket and narrowly escaping a fine. Information about waste tax and waste management becomes a conversation between people who are getting confused by all the coloured bins.
But this is not supposed to be a one-way street; everyone should be able to participate. Leaderboards, polls, questions and answers, games, and more. We're planning to introduce those gradually. This is supposed to become a community-driven website. There will be room for suggestions.
One thing we also choose to do differently is the language. We recognise the group of foreigners who made Brno their home, whether permanently, for the foreseeable future, or for an extended period. They have much to learn from those who were born here, and can share a lot about themselves in return. So, instead of making this a website in Czech, we chose to do it in English. This way, we can really speak about "Living in Brno, Together".
